THE 50th REUNION TOAST

This is the champagne toast that was written by Bill Ellis and given by

Judy Poindexter Myers and Bill at the Reunion.  The first two paragraphs

were read by Judy and the last two by Bill:

We would like to recognize all of those classmates who couldn't be with us,

not only those who have passed on but those who are dealing with sickness

or other issues which have kept them from celebrating with us tonight.

As we listen to the old tunes this evening, I'm sure they will bring back

memories such as holding hands, a first dance, a first hug, maybe even

a first kiss, and as you reflect on those memories, please make sure that

you keep all of our classmates in mind.

But tonight is about all of us who are here, who have come from Texas,

from Louisiana and Florida, from California and Nevada, from North

Carolina and South Carolina, from all over this great country to be with

the people who have been such a big part of our lives, to re-establish

old friendships with those who have always been there for us and to

remember the days when life seemed much simpler. We have danced at each

others weddings ,rejoiced at the birth of our children and grand children,

we have given each other the courage to go forward when all seemed lost

and we have mourned together at the loss of loved ones and classmates.

If there were a theme to this reunion and one characteristic that could

describe us all, it would have to be "WE ALL DID A GOOD JOB AND WE DID

IT RIGHT".  It doesn't make any difference what profession you chose, it

doesn't make any difference how much money you made or how successful

you were, we all did our jobs and we did them well because that's how we

were taught and we can be confident in knowing that everyone will say,

good job, class of 1961, good job.

So, would everyone please stand, raise their glass and join Judy and I

as we make this toast to the SAHS class of 1961.  We toast everyone for

doing the best job that could possibly be done and for doing it the

right way: we toast everyone who taught us that the only way was the

right way; but, most of all, we want to toast all of you because, you

have all earned the right to say, "I DID IT MY WAY".

The band started playing "My Way" by Frank Sinatra when everyone

raised their glasses.

Alan Farley

Our former teacher and band director, Mr. Alan Farley, honored us with his presence on Friday and Saturday evenings of the Reunion.  On Saturday evening, he spoke to our class with words that brought back many enjoyable memories of the "good old days" at SAHS.  Then Mr. Farley followed up those words with an email to our class.

Someone left this cartoon on the Reunion picture frame.

Tom Dunlap says we only have two classmates with the initials "R.C." -  Bob Conley and Robert Callard.  Bob, did you draw this cartoon?  Or, Robert, did you draw this cartoon?

Let us know if you were the artist, we want to give credit for the unique artwork.
